Here at The Crux Climbing Gym, we offer a wide range of courses that can help you take the next steps in developing your climbing abilities.
 

Women’s Climbing Night

Providing ladies with an opportunity to meet, chat and make friends and maybe find a regular climbing partner but also to have the platform to climb, improve and feel empowered as a group.

Session will start with a warm up to get everyone ready and then our instructors will be on hand to offer tips and advice on technique and improving you’re climbing.

  • When: 2nd & 4th Friday of every month 7:15-9:00pm
  • Cost: $17 including harness (Crux members free)
  • Includes complimentary shoe hire valued at $4

February 2024 – 14yrs+ Skill Workshops 

Weekly February Dates 7:15-9:15pm, Spaces limited, maximum 1 instructor to 8 participants

Friday 2nd – Whā – Basic Technique for colored climbs 10-16, Independent Grigri Belaying, Basic Equipment Care

Wednesday 7th – Rima – ATC Belaying, intermediate Equipment care and Practice leading, Foot, Hands and Movement technique for climbs 17-24

Friday 16th – Ono – Lead belaying, Climbing 14-19 without resting on a top rope or lead rope, Advanced techniques, climbing goal setting

Wednesday 21st – Whetu – Belaying down climbing on a gri-gri, climbing a climb clean first go and projecting harder climbs,

Wednesday 28th – Waru – Lead belaying for bigger falls and hazards ie. outside, ascend and descend a fixed line ie. self rescue.

Cost:

$40 per session

$80 for three sessions

$120 for all 5 sessions

50% off for crux monthly or termly members

Beginners Learn to Climb Course

This course is designed for beginners and people who have tried climbing a few times and wish to learn more. It is a great starting place for learning some basic techniques for climbing and indoor top rope belaying.

This course covers top rope climbing, belaying with gri gris and ATCs, rope management skills, understanding of good communication and buddy checks, the differences between climbing on slabs, vertical and overhanging walls, understanding of all hand holds and ways to use them and the development of good foot work to improve balance.

Climbing Intermediate Technique Course Only

Now that you have learnt the basics and can keep each other safe, this course is for you! Based around learning and developing techniques which will help you push for harder grades.

This course covers climbing warm-ups, importance of balance, basic movement techniques, good footwork and maximizing efficiency.

  • Cost: $40

Full Lead Climbing Course

This course will give you a solid introduction into the world of climbing. We’ll give you the knowledge and skills to lead confidently and safely belay other lead climbers.

This course covers knowledge of lead climbing equipment and terminology, preparing and managing the rope and equipment, using safe belaying techniques, understanding fall factors and how to hold a fall and using quick draws efficiently.
